Classroom discourse analysis in mother tongue education
Language plays a central role in learning: it does not merely convey meaning, it also creates meaning. Because language makes meaning, the ability of the students and the teacher to negotiate meaning and to contruct meaning collaboratively through language makes qualitative differences in the semantic dimension of the space of learning that is being constituted. An understanding of how the space of learning is linguistically constituted in the classroom is the best achieved through investigating classroom discourse. Analysis of the classroom discourse reveals the often hidden basic beliefs of teachers in mother tongue education.

E-learning enables student-centered learning, therefore it should not be regarded as a substitute, but amajor method of learning. Classroom processses are tutorial discussions, rather than classical procedures of knowledge transfer. Thus, economy in terms of time and energy becomes easier. In an interview in Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, it was observed that most instructors and professors were highly motivated about e-learning. Learning objectives and the contents of the courses in the faculty of Medicine were transferred to university web, students were encouraged to learn how to learn, and and special animations (e.g. a urologiacl operation) were demonstrated through the web, both to the students of Akdeniz University, and Harran Universty, in Eastern Anatolia. E-learning is necessary for students both for learning present courses, as well as future higher level education. Implementation of e-learning in Akdeniz University, problems and alternatives to present problems are discussed. |
