Viljandi Culture Academy

Viljandi Culture Academy provides applied higher education in such fields as theatrical art, dance, music, national handicraft, youth work as well as library and information sciences. VCA trains future actors, theater directors and technicians; dancers and choreographers; folk, jazz-pop and church musicians; textile artists; youth work instructors and library and information specialists. VCA is an important part of the image of this city, it attracts every year many new creative students and professors from all over the Estonia. VCA has over 600 students. In 2005, VCA will be merged (as one of the founding members) with the University of Tallinn.

Our workshops are going to take place in the main building of VCA - it is located in the city center (address: Posti 1, entrance from the main street, Tallinn street). It is within 2 minutes walk from bus station, 10 minutes walk from our hostel Oma Kodu (see the map below). VCA has three computer labs: one with 21 MS Windows computers (air conditioned), another with 12 Linux computers and small one with 5 multimedia computers. There is also a digital video studio, the whole building is covered with wireless LAN connection (WiFi, 11 Mbps). Several other rooms are available for small group work, if needed. There are at least 8 pubs, restaurants or cafe's within 5 minutes walking range from VCA.

Hostel Oma kodu

All ELHE summer school participants have accommodation at hostel Oma Kodu, which is located in 10 minutes walking distance from the main building of Viljandi Culture Academy and 12 minutes from bus station. The address of the hostel is Väike street 6, tel. +372 43 55755, fax +372 43 55750. In case you need to pronounce Oma Kodu (e.g. for taxi driver), say something like this: HOSTEL OWMAH KAWDOO ;-).

Oma Kodu (one could translate this roughly as "home, sweet home") is one of the best student dormitories in Estonia. It belongs to Viljandi Culture Academy. During the summer holidays, Oma Kodu is providing hostel services to tourists. The building has been recently renovated, before this it was used for decades as a birth clinic. There is a beautiful lake view from the third floor (where most of our participants are going to stay). Each room has a toilet and shower, Internet connectivity but no TV. Breakfast is served downstairs. There is a nice sauna in the cellar and conference room for 20 persons on the second floor.
