Aims of the LEARN module

LEARN aims to enable participants

  • to develop / improve a deep level understanding of a number of aspects of e-learning, and
  • to be able to adopt different forms of e-learning both constructively and critically.

By the end of LEARN participants should be able to

  • adopt / apply different forms of e-learning in higher education settings,
  • analyse basic learning- / teaching strategies of e-learning, and
  • have a solid competence in e-learning tutoring and consultancy.

LEARN will address the following issues:

  • Pedagogical models of e-learning
  • e-learning tools: Learning management systems, Content Management Systems, social software
  • Implementing e-learning in higher education: opportunities and obstacles
  • Cognitive and social–psychological foundations of e-learning
  • Authoring and re-use of Learning Objects
  • Curricula and qualification concepts for e-learning at higher education and school level
  • Communicative aspects of e-learning
  • e-learning as an innovation: Lessons from innovation theories
  • Additional (feel free to suggest other preferred issues)

Students may opt for one of these issues and give a workshop on it based on their current research and development work. They are expected to submit their research paper on “their” selected topic before the seminar and to post it into the Content Management System.

After 30th April 2005, Prof. B. Hudson (Sheffield Hallam University), M. Laanpere (Tallinn Pedagogical University) and Prof. F. Buchberger (Linz) will prepare the final programme.
